Program Overview

Mizizi workshops, first launched in 2022, are free, in-person workshops delivered across Kenya that:

  • Provide space for emotional healing
  • Introduce tools and frameworks to build resilience and strengthen mental well-being
  • Create opportunities to connect with others in their community impacted by cancer in their community

Led by AFC Peer Facilitators with lived experience of cancer, these culturally relevant workshops are delivered in local languages to ensure accessibility. Our facilitators receive ongoing training to ensure the highest level of accessible, community-based support.

This workshop focuses on Curiosity & Exploring Possibilities to help participants reflect on what they may have lost due to cancer and identify concrete actions they can take as they envision new possibilities in their lives.

I have always been so scared of cancer. I have seen my relatives and neighbors experience it. You hear cancer, you think of death. After today's workshop, I am not scared anymore—I have hope. There's life after cancer, a beautiful one, even. Just like a cut tree, you can grow into anything after. I feel empowered now, and the least I can do is empower others. — Ephrianza, 2025 Mizizi Workshop Participant
